| (November 24, 1998) - M.B. Kit Systems, Ltd., a German-based
manufacturing company, has begun construction on its new North American
assembly/distribution facility on a 3.6 acre parcel of land adjacent to the Akron Fulton
International Airport. Company officials, including President Eveline Nordhauss, joined
Deputy Mayor for Economic Development, James Phelps, in breaking ground for the new
operations this morning. M.B. Kit Systems produces customized metal work stations for a variety of manufacturing applications. The flexible and expandable systems enable industrial clients to efficiently arrange and connect diverse control and production components. The company was attracted to Akron as a result of the City's efforts, and those of the Akron Regional Development Board in marketing the Akron area to German industrial companies. M.B. Kit began North American operations in 1997 in a nearby leased facility. The company has 15 employees in that location and anticipates expanding to 30 workers in its new operation. ASW Properties, Ltd. will serve as the developer for M.B. Kit and is building the new 20,250 square foot facility at 925 Glaser Parkway at a cost of $900,000. The site, leased from the City of Akron, will provide M.B. Kit with sufficient space to expand to more than 40,000 square feet within five years. Mayor Don Plusquellic commented, "The City of Akron welcomes M.B. Kit Systems to its new home at the Akron Fulton Airport. I am pleased the company has grown and prospered in our city and that the owners have chosen to build their new facility here. M. B. Kit is representative of the type of growing, high-quality manufacturing business the City hopes to attract through its international marketing efforts." The mayor also acknowledged the commitment of Eveline Nordhauss and other company officials and the efforts of ASW Properties President Phil Maynard in accommodating the needs of this new venture. Richard Erickson, president of the ARDB said today, "High-quality manufacturing technology is evolving from both Germany and throughout Europe. M.B. Kit represents what is expected to be only the beginning of new international initiatives in business in the Akron area." The project joins other industrial/commercial developments on land purchased or leased from the City adjacent to the airport, including the recently completed JRB Corporation facility, Landmark Plastics, Advanced PolyPackaging, Diamond/Network Polymers, and J.J.
