The Food Safety Program is responsible for licensing and inspecting all of the Food Service, Food Establishment, Vending, Mobile and Temporary Food Operations within the City of Akron.

Using the Ohio Uniform Food Safety Code, the sanitarians strive to educate food operations in proper food handling procedures to minimize the risk of foodborne illness. The Food Safety Program works closely with other agencies and city departments such as the Ohio Departments of Health and Agriculture, Epidemiology, Plans and Permits, and other local Health Departments in the investigation of foodborne illness and plan approval.

All licenses are due by March 1st, an application for license renewal shall be submitted to the licensor not later than the first day of March, except in the case of a mobile or seasonal retail food establishment/food service operation, when the renewal application shall be submitted before commencing operation in a new licensing period. Applications are available under the forms button. License fees are calculated using a cost methodology and are risk based.
