Her occupation is... Economist, Department of Planning & Urban Development

She's been with the City for… Five years.  Monika started as a student intern in the Capital Planning Division the day after she graduated and became a full-time Economist for the City in 2007.

Monika is the person who… assists with planning, preparing and reporting of the one-year and five-year capital budgets, analyzes and reconciles capital funds and prepares the City’s proposed capital project debt issue. She works with engineering on capital requests, grant applications and reimbursement requests. She also works with the team in Planning on various stages of development planning, from Tax Increment Financing projections and capital improvement needs to working with the Law Dept. on the development agreement.

Monika Kirbawy serves as a Technical Advisory Committee alternate for the Akron Metropolitan Area Transportation Study. She has also represented the City through public presentations at The University of Akron and Kent State University.

What does she enjoy most about the job?  "I enjoy being a part of the Strategic Initiatives division because every day presents a new challenge. I love not always being able to expect what will happen; one day I may be analyzing numbers and the next I am out building a park."

Monika is also... married and she is expecting her first child in July.

When she has time… "I am a runner and enjoy hitting the beautiful trails in and around Akron whenever I have a chance. I am also an avid reader and am trying to catch up on the classic novels, but, of course, preparing for a new baby is taking up almost all my time right now."
