OFFICER DOUGLAS MATSON began his career
with the Police Department on April 5, 1999. He attended the Akron Police Academy and upon
his graduation was temporarily assigned to the 6:30 a.m. 2:30 p.m. Uniform patrol
shift during his training. DOUG has been assigned to the 3:00 p.m. 11:00
p.m. Uniform patrol shift since October 1999. OFFICER MATSON primarily patrols
the Goodyear Heights area. He maintains excellent physical condition and is known as a
leader on his shift. DOUG is a highly professional officer who has a superior work
ethic. He diligently and aggressively handles calls for service and consistently does
thorough investigations at crime scenes.
DOUG recently demonstrated extreme courage and heroism during a call at a scrap
yard on Hazel Street. A worker in the yard had accidentally severed his lower leg, which
was bleeding profusely. DOUG acted calmly and quickly by summoning EMS to the scene
and used his garrison belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, which helped save the
mans life
DOUG and his wife Becky have been married 15 years. He and Becky have a 10 year
old son named Jake and an 11 year old daughter named Tori. In addition to spending time
with his family, DOUG enjoys playing competitive adult soccer.
OFFICER DOUGLAS MATSON is a model officer whose diligence and professionalism is
a great example of an Akron Police Officer. He is a credit to the police department and
the citizens of Akron.
