OFFICER DOUGLAS MATSON began his career with the Police Department on April 5, 1999. He attended the Akron Police Academy and upon his graduation was temporarily assigned to the 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Uniform patrol shift during his training. DOUG has been assigned to the 3:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Uniform patrol shift since October 1999.

OFFICER MATSON primarily patrols the Goodyear Heights area. He maintains excellent physical condition and is known as a leader on his shift. DOUG is a highly professional officer who has a superior work ethic. He diligently and aggressively handles calls for service and consistently does thorough investigations at crime scenes.

DOUG recently demonstrated extreme courage and heroism during a call at a scrap yard on Hazel Street. A worker in the yard had accidentally severed his lower leg, which was bleeding profusely. DOUG acted calmly and quickly by summoning EMS to the scene and used his garrison belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding, which helped save the man’s life

DOUG and his wife Becky have been married 15 years. He and Becky have a 10 year old son named Jake and an 11 year old daughter named Tori. In addition to spending time with his family, DOUG enjoys playing competitive adult soccer.

OFFICER DOUGLAS MATSON is a model officer whose diligence and professionalism is a great example of an Akron Police Officer. He is a credit to the police department and the citizens of Akron.
