SUSAN ILIJEVICH
started with the City of Akron in the Health Department's Administrative Division as a
Clerk Steno I on December 19, 1983. In November 1984, she was promoted to Clerk Steno II.
She transferred to the Environmental Health Division in August 1989, and she was promoted
to Clerk Typist III in November 1989. SUE was again promoted in March 1993 to Clerk Steno
Ill. In October 1994, she attained her present position of Secretary III.
SUE and Greg are happily
married and have two children: Jenny 11 and Steven 8. SUE graduated from Kenmore High
School and received an Associate Degree as a Legal Secretary from the University of Akron.
Her favorite hobbies are spending time with her husband and kids and with relatives and
friends. She also enjoys shopping, decorating her house, reading, listening to books on
tape and spending time outside in the parks.
SUE worked for the Director and
Deputy Directors of Health, the department's accountant, epidemiologist, staff
pediatrician, and Health Education personnel. She worked routinely with very sensitive and
confidential records in Communicable Disease Control and local AIDS and HIV reporting
activities. When SUE transferred to the Environmental Health Division in August 1989, she
became the backbone of the record keeping and communication with the Akron Fire Department
for the Right to Know Program. She has typically been the office support person that is
most relied upon.
SUE has been the recording
Clerk Steno for several committees involving the Health Department and outside agencies.
She has volunteered to serve on committees representing the Environmental Health Division
in Health Department activities.
SUE works exceptionally well
with the public and her fellow employees and she does a great job in heading the
division's office support staff. The people who call the Environment Health office are not
always pleasant as they are responding to orders they have received regarding their
property. SUE is very adept at dealing with the irate callers and directing them to the
person or agency, which can help them the most. She has the experience and dedication to
sufficiently handle many calls regarding situations with which the division does not deal.

SUE has an
exceptional aptitude for ferreting out potential problems, allowing the division to deal
with them before they become unworkable. SUE does an exceptional job dealing with small
details so the "big picture" can be seen and dealt with most appropriately. She
has been very helpful in organizing division changes subsequent to the new State of Ohio
Food Law, effective January 1, 2001.
SUE is pleasant, efficient and
conscientious. These are just a few of the qualities she possesses that make her a credit
to the Health Department, her division and the City of Akron as a whole. |
