JIM HEWITT started with the City of Akron on May 31, 1988 as an Engineering Co-op. He became permanent on June 5, 1989 and was promoted to an Engineering Technician I. After being promoted to an Engineering Technician II, he attained his present position of Engineering Projects Coordinator on June 22, 1998.

JIM and his wife Irene have been married six years and live in the Ellet area. They have three children, Noah, 3; Zachary, 1 1/2; Luke, two weeks (born May 14, 1999). JIM has a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Technology from the University of Akron. He enjoys playing golf and softball.JIM worked on the Firestone Stadium project. This project required all of the work to begin in January 1999 and to be completed by May 1, 1999. He worked with a scheduling consultant to generate a schedule before the work began and had it updated weekly to assist in monitoring progress on the project. He worked long hours and weekends with the contractors to assure the plans and specifications were being followed, and to confirm that the project would finish on time.

Two days before the May 1 deadline, it was requested that the infield be flattened. This required the construction of a concrete retaining wall and the removal of 260 tons of infield material. Jim stayed through the night until the job was done.

JIM was required to coordinate the construction with the demolition contractor, field lighting contractor, general trades contractor, HVAC/plumbing contractor, electrical contractor, fencing contractor, and the painting contractor. Coordination was also required with various City of Akron offices, Summit County Softball Hall of Fame and the Akron Racers.
